Women Writers Reading Challenge #17: The Color Purple by Alice Walker

IMG_2417

This book has been on my to-read list for a very long time. I knew that it would be moving and heart-wrenching and I set it aside for a time when I was ready to face the material. I’ve never read a more intense beginning to a book, and it keeps its momentum throughout. Walker’s novel is an amazing story about loss, sisterhood, hope, love, and healing. She shows Celie’s world from her own sharp eyes and through her own voice through letters written to both God and her sister.

I don’t know what else to say about this book except that if you haven’t read it, you must. There’s no way around it: this book will move you, astound you, and change you.

(The picture is coming–this is one of the books I left at my parents by accident)
